On 13 July 2001 at the 112th IOC Session in Moscow, Beijing was elected the Host City for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008. To be ready for the vast influx of visitors Beijing Subway decided to extend their transport network building new lines (Line 10 and Olympic line) and renewing existing ones (line 1 and line 2). Switching devices for electric circuits of the lines were provided by SECHERON and its partner in China DAQO. Straton PLC software was choose to be embedded in the SEPCOS-NG for the control application.



Straton is embedded in the SEPCOS-NG which is a protection and control relay product of SECHERON SA. The main requirements were:

  • PLC, up to 54 Digital inputs and 30 Digitals output possible
  • 5.6'' Graphic display with touchscreen function
  • Fully approved for railways sub-station environment EN50255-22
  • Wide communication possibilities including TCP/IP protocol function


'The choice of straton was evident because of the modularity of straton, the continuous improvement of the product, mainly for energy protocols and the reactivity of the COPA-DATA team' said Stephane Anthoine Milhomme, senior developer at SECHERON.


The connectivity of straton provides modularity and adaptability to the SEPCOS-NG. The SEPCOS-NG was developed with the objective to make it as adaptable to the customer's needs as possible, and that has been achieved: the SEPCOS-NG is open to all customer's networks and protocols through the straton fieldbus configuration tools:

  • IEC60870-5-104
  • DNP3
  • IEC61850
  • Straton TCP/IP protocol for efficient communication with zenon (SCADA/HMI).
